PCS OCTOBER CLASSIC AT ROSEVILLE GOES TO ROMERO

ROSEVILLE, CALIFORNIA (October 16, 2016) – On a spooky evening at Roseville’s All American Speedway, Jason Romero of Cameron Park stormed to victory in the third annual October Classic for the Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com.  Saturday night’s abbreviated 50 lap feature was shortened due to weather but that did not deter Romero from completing a perfect 4-0 season in PCS competition at the facility.

Romero won all three PCS points races at the one-third mile asphalt oval before winning Saturday’s non-points race.  The event served as the undercard for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West “Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 presented by TriCo Welding Supply”.

The second practice session of the afternoon served as qualifying due to the rain shortened schedule, with multi-time All American Speedway champion Eric Schmidt earning fast-time with a 13.306 second lap.  A straight up start placed Schmidt on the pole for the 50 lap feature.

Romero trailed Schmidt by just .032 in qualifying and proved that to be no fluke in the race.  The top-two ran side-by-side for the first five laps of the race with Romero edging forward on the outside.  Romero officially led lap three at the line by a nose and again led lap four before clearing Schmidt on lap five.

Three-time All American Speedway champion Matt Scott and 2016 PCS champion Jeremy Doss both overhauled Schmidt to knock him back to fourth by lap ten.  Schmidt managed to get third back from Doss by the halfway point of the race.

2016 Tri-Holiday #3 winner Travis Milburn of Eagle, ID took fifth from Doss’ teammate Jeff Bischofberger at nearly the same time and then turned his attention to Doss.  Milburn took fourth from Doss but never got the caution flag he needed to close things up with the top-three.

Romero used the all green flag event to put laps on former PCS champions Mike Beeler and John Moore among others as he held off Scott by three car lengths at the finish.  Schmidt, Milburn, and Doss rounded out the top-five in the rapid non-stop race as the only lead lap finishers.  Milburn’s run from seventh was enough for the Penney Racing Supply Hard Charger Award as well.

JEREMY DOSS WINS PCS SEASON FINALE AT UKIAH TO CLAIM CHAMPIONSHIP

UKIAH, CALIFORNIA (October 1, 2016) – Upperlake, CA’s Jeremy Doss won his all-time best 19th career Pacific Challenge Series race, winning a thriller to take the 2016 championship on Saturday night at Ukiah Speedway.  The 75 lap contest saw the lead change hands multiple times in the final 20 laps, with Doss fending off 2015 and 2016 runner-up Mike Beeler of Modesto for a narrow victory.  Saturday’s races were presented by PenneyLawyers.com

Manteca’s JR Courage finished second at Ukiah in July after leading the much of the first half of that race.  He followed up on that performance by winning the American Racer Tire Dash on Saturday worth a set of tires and the pole for the feature.

2016 PCS Rookie of the Year Matthew Wendt took the lead on the initial start from the outside pole and brought Beeler with him on lap eight.  Courage was forced up to the outside line by Beeler, and despite enjoying the outside line in the dash Courage fell back to fifth.

Tracy’s Jeff Bischofberger got around Doss for third on lap 25 when Doss swung wide coming out of turn four fighting a loose condition and no power steering.  The lead pack of Wendt, Beeler, and Bischofberger staged a very intense battle that thrilled the fans on a cold night, with Wendt doing a great job fighting off the touring stock car veterans for many laps.

The tight exciting action on the quarter-mile continued when Courage took fourth from Doss as well.  Beeler tagged Wendt in turn one on lap 55 and in the process lost second to Bischofberger.  Bischofberger turned up the heat on Wendt as well with it boiling over on lap 65.  Wendt slid off the track on the backstretch and bounced over the off ramp sending him sliding through the infield.  Wendt slid back onto turn three and was clipped by Bischofberger, ending both of their nights.

Beeler assumed the top position with ten laps to go with Courage restarting on the outside and Doss inside the second row.  Doss used the restart to dash up into second and a side-by-side battle ensued.

Doss took the lead on lap 70 and Beeler gave his all in several attempts to take the lead back.  With two to go, the pair banged doors down the front stretch before separating.  Doss was able to survive an onslaught of late race challenges for a two car length victory over Beeler with Courage third, Danny Malfatti fourth as the final finisher.

Loomis’ Chris Scribner lost his engine in the dash to end his evening early.  Danny Malfatti won the Penney Racing Supply Hard Charger award.

The Pacific Challenge Series championship may be complete, but arguably the series biggest event is still on the calendar.  The non-points “October Classic 100” will take place on October 15th at All American Speedway as part of the prestigious TOYOTA/NAPA Auto Parts 150 presented by Trico Welding weekend.  The third annual event attracts the PCS’ largest crowd annually.

JASON ROMERO COMPLETES SWEEP OF PCS RACES AT ROSEVILLE

ROSEVILLE, CALIFORNIA (September 24, 2016) – 2009 All American Speedway champion Jason Romero continued his pure dominance at the speedway, taking his third consecutive Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com victory at the track in 2016.  Romero again fought hard with points leader Jeremy Doss, who inched closer to his second series championship as well.  The race had six lead changes and four different leaders in the 100 lap contest.

2015 PCS champion John Moore of Granite Bay won the American Racer Tire Dash for a set of American Racer Tires and for the pole position alongside his son, 2015 Rookie of the Year Cole Moore.  After an exciting side-by-side battle, John Moore took off with the lead position by a couple of car lengths.

Former Roseville Late Model champions Romero and three-time champ Matt Scott occupied row two and both drivers went after Cole Moore.  Scott took over second on lap 14 with Romero making a nice inside move on lap 17 in turn three to take third.

John Moore, Scott, and Romero ran nose-to-tail through lapped traffic while teammates Doss and Jeff Bischofberger jostled past 2014 champion Mike Beeler of Modesto.  The strong battles gave Doss fifth and Bischofberger sixth, critical moves in the championship hunt.  Things intensified for the lead position and Scott led lap 29.  Contact between the top-three caused a left rear flat tire for John Moore sending him spinning on that same lap.

Scott led just the 29th lap as Romero swooped past on the outside to take the lead on the restart.  Beeler used the restart to come back at Bischofberger as well in a side-by-side battle.  Bischofberger drove away to challenge Cole Moore and take over fourth on lap 51.  The caution flew on that lap for Danny Malfatti spinning in turn four and Scott was forced to surrender second position with a fluid leak that ended his night.

Romero charged away from Doss on the ensuing restart, before a caution for Tracy Bolin sliding up the hill in turn one and nearly tagging the wall.  He was able to pit and make repairs to return to the race.  Cole Moore and Romero suffered damage in the melee but continued.  Doss used the restart to take the lead from Romero on the outside and he held the top position for three laps as the two slid around the track door handle to door handle.  Romero took the lead back on lap 59.

Beeler stalled on lap 87 for a caution period but he was able to return after a pit stop.  Lapped traffic was still mixed in with the leaders, causing contact that damaged the front suspension on John Moore’s car as he came to a stop for a lap 90 caution.  With ten laps to go, lapped cars were pulled out giving Doss another opportunity to race Romero.  He led just the 91st lap and Romero took the lead back.

The pair remained locked side-by-side to the approval of the crowd before the battle was nullified when Chris Scribner came back on the track after a stop in the pits.  Romero snuck through and never relinquished the lead, while Bischofberger used the incident to overtake his teammate Doss for second as well at the finish.

Stockton Labor Day Weekend winner Travis Milburn of Eagle, ID had a steady race for fourth with Cole Moore rounding out the top-five.  Milburn’s drive from tenth starting position to fourth earned him the Penney Racing Supply Hard Charger award.

The Pacific Challenge Series championship will conclude this Saturday at Ukiah Speedway in Ukiah, CA.  For more information on the Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com visit www.PacificChallengeSeries.com

PREVIEW: PENULTIMATE ROUND OF 2016 PCS CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY AT ROSEVILLE

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (September 20, 2016) – The 11th and penultimate race of the 2016 Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com hits the track Saturday at Roseville’s All American Speedway.  Saturday’s races are the third and final points race of the year at the one-third mile asphalt oval, where Cameron Park’s Jason Romero has swept both features this year.  North State Modifieds and the inaugural Street Stock and Bomber stampede for $800 to win will encompass the “Fall Classic” program.

Saturday’s races kick off three PCS events in four weeks, with Saturday’s Roseville race and the October 1st Ukiah event to wrap up the championship followed by the 3rd Annual October Classic 100 non-points race on October 15th.

“I love Roseville.  Roseville’s a great track with a lot of racing room,” Romero said.  “A lot of good clean hard fast racing.  You can run side-by-side a lot.  It is one of the best places to go for good short track racing.”

The championship picture for PCS came into focus after Tri Holiday Classic #3 on September 3rd, where Eagle, ID’s Travis Milburn scored a $2500 victory in a close win over Manteca’s Jacob Gomes.  Points leader Jeremy Doss, the 2012 champion out of Upperlake, CA, suffered a slight misstep with a seventh place finish but was one better than 2014 champion Mike Beeler of Modesto, CA in a critical battle for the championship.

With the series championship taking into account the best nine finishes, and Doss accumulating eight top-fives including six top-twos, he is closing in on putting the championship away.  Beeler, also with two wins this season, needs a “home run ball” over the last two races to have any chance at the championship.  With drop races factored in, Doss currently enjoys a 14 point advantage over Beeler.

Tracy’s Jeff Bischofberger and Manteca’s JR Courage are in the midst of a great battle for third in the points.  Courage leads Bischofberger by 34 points on total points earned but Bischofberger holds third by only four markers after drops.  Bischofberger finished sixth in the Stockton event.  Granite Bay’s Cole Moore has leapt all the way to fifth in the points after drops despite a partial schedule.  Despite only seven starts, a strong fourth place effort at Stockton has him squarely in contention for a top-five in the points.

“The track at Roseville is very meaningful for me.  My brother’s memorial is there for one,” Moore said.  “It is a really good track for racing.  You can run the inside and the outside.  It is super fun and I’m excited to get back there.”

Rookie Matt Wendt will be the top contender with Moore for fifth in the standings, and after a strong start to the year is looking for his first top-five since the last Roseville event in June.  Granite Bay’s John Moore is also in the mix for fifth overall after third and fifth place finishes in his last two PCS starts.

The momentum from Valley Springs’ Tracy Bolin’s third place finish at Madera was nullified with a crash at Stockton.  The incident came when race leader Jason Romero was spun by Ross Strmiska, with Bolin having nowhere to go as he made hard contact with Romero.  Both drivers hope to recover strong at Roseville.  Romero has been one of the biggest instant successes in PCS with fast-time awards at both Stockton and Madera along with sweeping both Roseville races.

Elk Grove’s Mike Hite, Manteca’s Jacob Gomes, Hayward’s Danny Malfatti, Milburn, and Loomis’ Chris Scribner are among those dueling for the final positions in the top-ten in the standings.  Scribner has eight career Roseville PCS starts but is still looking for his first series win at the venue.

Activities get underway Friday with practice beginning at 3:30 p.m.  Pit gates will open at 2 p.m.  On Saturday, pit gates will open at 1 p.m. with practices at 2 p.m., qualifying at 5 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.  Adult tickets are just $15 with Children (6-15) $7.00, Seniors (60+) $7.00, and Children under 6 are FREE.  A Family Pass for two Adults and three Kids is just $35.00
