The Pacific Challenge Series drivers really rocked the Redwoods Saturday night. Such a great line up of drivers in the field, we knew it would be fun, and were not disappointed. A few of the Redwood Acres local late model drivers were on hand and showed their home track advantage with some fast practice times early on Saturday. The 05 of Eric Schmidt topped the qualifying charts winning the PRS $100 fast time award. All of our competitors seemed determined to put on a great show for the Redwood Acres fans. Heat 1 saw RAR local Roger Sanderson cruise to victory from his front row starting spot with Mic Moulton, another RAR local, on his heels. Heat 2 was an all-star line up with the top 4 in PCS points racing to the checkers with hard charging Randy Houston coming out on top. The 9 of Randy Houston also took the PCS$100 dash for cash win and looked strong going into the night’s main event.
With a deep invert draw the fast cars had their work cut out for them as the green flag dropped on the 75 lap main event. The race was moving along at a quick caution free pace when a spin in turn 3-4 on lap 44 had all the cars checking up to avoid getting involved. Unfortunately Eric Schmidt couldn’t get slowed in time and got into the rear of Myles Anderson taking out his radiator and his chances at another winning finish. Shortly after the re-start, Randy Houston exited with an engine problem. With the 2 fastest cars out for the night the rest of the field set sail on a battle to the finish that had the stands on their feet. Junior Roddy bested the field with a solid win over Howard Ford, Bobby Hirschbock and top finishing RAR driver Mic Moulton and Area favorite Jimmie Walker rounding out the top 5. A special thanks to Rich and Linda Olson for a great weekend of racing at Redwood Acres. (Can’t wait to go back in Sept.)
Also thanks to Johnnie M. on another fantastic job on the flags. PCS appreciates your dedication to racing.
