PREVIEW: PACIFIC CHALLENGE SERIES TO CROWN CHAMPION SATURDAY AT UKIAH

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (September 29, 2015) – A hotly contested championship battle between two Northern California veteran Super Late Model drivers will be decided Saturday, when the Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com holds its championship finale at Ukiah Speedway. Granite Bay’s John Moore leads Salida’s Mike Beeler, the 2014 champion, into the highly anticipated tenth points race and 11th race overall for the series.

Saturday’s race marks the third appearance of California’s only Super Late Model series to the quarter-mile asphalt oval at Ukiah. Upperlake’s Jeremy Doss defended home turf with a victory in May while Folsom, CA rookie Hunter Corbitt won at Ukiah in July. Doss’ win was the springboard to an eventual three wins this year in a hugely successful part-time PCS campaign.

Beeler is trying to make history as the only repeat champion in the PCS series going back to 2008 under the former AABLM format.

Moore and Beeler each have one win, and each of those wins came at their home tracks with Moore winning the July round at Stockton while Beeler put himself squarely into the championship hunt with a win at the September Stockton race. The tides turned last week at Roseville when Moore took home a solid second place finish to retake the points lead with Beeler coming home seventh.

In ten starts, Moore has one win, six top-fives, and seven top-tens. Beeler’s resume is one win, four top-fives, and seven top-tens.

Moore leads Beeler by four points in the overall standings, but with a “throw-away” points system the lead increases to 12 points. Moore’s worst finish this season was a 17th at the June Roseville event while Beeler had a 13th place effort at the April Roseville race.

Beeler will need to steer his #6 Beeler Industries Chevrolet at least six positions ahead of Moore, in the #27 JM Environmental Camaro, to at least tie the points and move to a tie-breaker scenario.

The wild card in the points hunt may be Moore’s son Cole, in the #20 JM Environmental Camaro. Although 34 points out of first place after taking out the lowest score, Cole Moore could still play spoiler if he can hit a home run ball by getting his first career PCS win when it counts on Saturday.

Fourth through eighth in the points will be an equally entertaining duel with Elk Grove’s Ron Chunn, Grass Valley’s Don Swartz, Elk Grove’s Mike Hite, Corbitt, and Eagle, ID’s Travis Milburn all mathematically in the hunt. Rounding out the top-ten in the order is Auburn’s Austin Gant and Doss.

This weekend’s PCS points finale begins Friday night with an optional practice session. Saturday’s races include a 75 lap PCS feature plus local racing with Modifieds, Legends, Bombers, and Jammers. The Ukiah Speedway is located at the Redwood Empire Fair & Event Center.

Following Ukiah, the Pacific Challenge Series teams will set their sights on the non-points season finale “October Classic 100” at All American Speedway on October 17th. The $3500 to win event is held during the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, West races at the one-third mile oval and has attracted 33 pre-entries. Entry information is available on the PCS website or by calling BMR at (916) 676-0010.

The Pacific Challenge Series is presented by: Penney Racing Supply, Penney & Associates, American Racer Tires, Maita Chevrolet, Naake Suspension, Sunoco Fuels, Five Star Bodies, KB Fabrication, Lefthander Chassis, ARP Bodies, Joes Racing Products, Bassett Wheels, Frank’s Radio, Racerbling, and Blakesley Sports Media.
