Largest Field Yet taken the green at Ukiah

The Pacific Challenge Series group showed up in force for the return of the PCS to Ukiah Speedway. The weather was perfect and the track and pits were spectacular. 14 cars were on hand for Fridays extended practice. Big thanks go out to David Furia and his staff from all the PCS racers , crews and staff for making this such a welcoming and exciting event. Saturday saw the highest PCS car count yet with 19 cars filling the newly paved pits.
This event drew cars from all over the north state area. David Miller from Oregon as well as cars from the Valley like Philpott, Beeler, Scribner, Hite, Allen, Gant, Hodges and Jones all came to race with the Ukiah area favorites of Roddy, Hirschbock ,Knight, Dalerio, Anderson, Yapelli, Cashada, Gibney and Nelson. The fans were in for a treat. Teams showed they were more than ready to put on a great show when the practice times started coming in showing a lot of speed and at least a dozen cars all within a tenth of each other. Junior Roddy put down the fastest qualifying lap winning the Sunoco Fuels fast time award. Justin Philpott, David Miller, Austin Gant, Allen Gibney, and Chris Scribner rounded out the top 6 on the speed charts and would set the 6 car 6 lap dash. Chris Scribner jumped out to an early lead in the sprint race and never looked back winning the Diverse Machine and Fab $100 dash for cash.

One of the coolest most notable parts of the weekend was the National Anthem that had the 6 Dash cars making a parade lap while proudly displaying American Flags from each car. It was quite a sight as all the crews came out to the infield for the singing of the anthem as the sun was setting. We had a video crew there that got a lot of the action from the pits and the race and will be posting on You Tube soon, Check it out!!

The PenneyLawyers.com 75 lap main event would kick off with an 8 car invert of the field. Fast timer Roddy would have his work cut out for him getting up through the close knit group. A full field of 19 cars was an awesome sight on the oval as the PCS racers all took the green flag and got the race under way. Allen Gibney fell out in the opening laps with ignition trouble unfortunately ending his night. Kieth Nelson , who started on point , would jump out to a commanding lead and looked to have the field covered until a broken axle sidelined his run at the win.The race ran fairly incident free as the PCS drivers all raced each other hard but clean. Mechanical problems seemed to be the downfall of several teams. Justin Philpott retired early after a hard charge in the front group and fast timer Junior Roddy dropped out after fighting with power steering failure. In the end Chris Scribner raced his way to the front and set sail on a strong run to the end, taking the checkers in his first PCS win and the $1500.00 payday. David Miller was on a great run, keeping out of trouble and bringing home a strong second place finish. Mike Beeler looked fast all weekend in his Mike David prepared car and finished in the third spot . Fourth spot was Bobby Hodges in a Naake Motorsports car and Bobby Hirschbock brought home fifth spot for the I-5 tire team.

All in all it was one of the most enjoyable race weekends ever with lots of cars, lots of fun and great racing. We can’t wait to get back there on September 6th and do it all again.
