5.28.16 RECAP: Round #4 | Stockton 99 Speedway #1

ERIC SCHMIDT GETS LONG AWAITED STOCKTON PCS WIN

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA (May 28, 2016) – Former Stockton 99 Speedway track champion Eric Schmidt won his first Pacific Challenge Series race at the venue, claiming the 100 lap Tri-Holiday Classic #1 on Saturday night.  The Roseville, CA driver is also a 2013 PCS champion and made the winning move on lap 96 at the quarter-mile paved oval.

Schmidt’s win on the 68 year old historic speedway was a popular one and came in a fast-paced night where the top-eight cars broke the track record.  Schmidt led that effort with a 13.291 second lap around the high-banked speedway.

Schmidt had to come from seventh on the grid after finishing in seventh in the American Racer Tire dash earlier in the night.  It was Ross Strmiska and Cole Moore leading the 20 car Super Late Model field down to green with a third- and a second-generation Stockton 99 regulars on the front row.

Strmiska led the opening 45 laps of the race with his new black, pink, and gold Dodge Challenger with Moore in tow.  By one fifth race distance the pair maintained a strong lead over 2015 SRL Champion Jacob Gomes in third.  Gomes took over second position from Moore on lap 42.  Gomes then passed Strmiska for the top-spot on lap 46.

Schmidt emerged into the top-five with 30 laps left to go and chipped his way through the top-five while Gomes enjoyed a commanding lead.  With ten laps to go Schmidt got around Moore and looked to challenge Gomes.  A late race incident involving Strmiska and Wendt set up the battle with Schmidt getting past Gomes on lap 96 to take the victory.  The top-five at the stripe were Schmidt, Gomes, points leader Jeremy Doss from eighth starting position, Moore, and 2014 PCS champion Mike Beeler in his typical late race charge.

Doss was the races’ hard charger while the Brakeometer prize for the fourth place finisher went to Cole Moore.  The Pacific Challenge Series continues a back-to-back stretch of races on Saturday night June 4th when they hit Anderson, CA and Shasta Speedway.  This will be the first points paying appearance for the tour since 2013 for the fast 3/8ths mile oval.

PREVIEW: STOCKTON 99 SPEEDWAY UP NEXT FOR PACIFIC CHALLENGE SERIES

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (May 24, 2016) – The Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com will make their first trip to Stockton 99 Speedway of the season, with round four of the Super Late Model championship on tap Saturday night.  Saturday’s races are the first of the three round Tri-Holiday Series at Stockton commemorating Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends.

The historic Stockton 99 Speedway quarter-mile is embarking on its 68th season of racing action and is under the tutelage of Tony & Carol Noceti.  A full night of racing action is on tap with Legends of the Pacific, the revitalized Stockton Late Models, and Bombers joining the evening’s card.

Jeremy Doss scored his PCS-leading 17th career feature win by claiming the Mother’s Day race at Ukiah Speedway two weeks ago.  The Upperlake, CA driver leads his JD Motorsports teammate Jeff Bischofberger by just two points in the series standings.  Doss is hoping to ride the momentum into Stockton where he has three wins but also three finishes outside the top-ten in his PCS career at the facility.

Bischofberger on the other hand scored his first career Super Late Model win at Stockton when he won a SRL Southwest Tour race there last season.  Saturday will be Bischofberger’s maiden PCS race at the facility.

An average finish of 5.3 has propelled Loomis’ Chris Scribner to third in the championship standings.  He has only two previous PCS starts at Stockton with one top-ten finish.

2014 series champion Mike Beeler of Modesto is fourth in the current rundown and has had some great success at Stockton.  Beeler’s Late Model career was focused on the weekly racing at Stockton before he advanced to PCS.  Beeler won last year’s third round of the Tri-Holiday Series and has a total of five top-tens in six career series starts.

Hayward’s Danny Malfatti rounds out the top-five in the standings with three consecutive top-ten finishes to start out the season.  Valley Springs’ Tracy Bolin returns to his home track from the sixth position in the standings ahead of Upperlake’s Jimmy Stillman in seventh.  Bolin set the track record at the Madera season opener.  His bad luck this year included a broken rear end at Ukiah that his team was able to overcome en route to a season-best fourth place finish.

2015 series champion John Moore of Granite Bay also won the 2015 Tri-Holiday three race championship and sits eighth in the standings after failing to take the green flag at Ukiah.  Moore won the July Tri-Holiday event last year.  Canadian Darrell Midgley and Manteca’s JR Courage round out the top-ten.

Drivers with plenty of local track experience are expected at Stockton including 2015 SRL Southwest Tour champion Jacob Gomes of Manteca.  Gomes won the season opener at Madera and also has a win with PCS at Stockton in his record books.  Matthew Wendt has shown a lot of speed in his two PCS starts this year and hopes to translate that to success at his home track.  The Lodi driver won 11 of his last 14 Super Stock starts over the past two seasons at the speedway.

Mike Hite, Travis Milburn, Kyle Gottula, Justin Philpott, and Larry Tankersley are among other drivers expected to return to PCS action with Saturday’s race at Stockton.

Saturday’s Legends of the Pacific race is the fourth time so far in 2016 that Legends have raced with the Pacific Challenge Series.  Cameron Austin has had the most success with three second place finishes with two wins for Robby Czub and one for Luis Tyrrell.

Racing activities get underway Friday night with practice from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.  Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and pricing is $40 per person with no car fee.  On Saturday pit gates open at 1 p.m. with first practices at 3:30 p.m.  Grandstands open at 5 p.m. with racing scheduled for 6 p.m.  Pit passes are $45 on Saturday.  General admission tickets are $20 for Adults, $15 for Juniors age 11-15 and Seniors age 60+, and Kids 10 & under are FREE!

JEREMY DOSS EARNS FIFTH CONSECUTIVE UKIAH PCS WIN

UKIAH, CALIFORNIA (May 8, 2016) – 2012 Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers.com champion Jeremy Doss won his 17th career win, and fifth straight at Ukiah, taking Sunday’s 75 lap feature at Ukiah Speedway.  Doss took over the lead on lap five and never looked back in the non-stop 16 minute feature.

The race was delayed to Mother’s Day Sunday after rain washed out Saturday’s racing activities.  Doss’ win also gives him the points lead by two points over his teammate Jeff Bischofberger after three of 13 races have been held in 2016.

The American Racer Tires Dash for a set of tires on Saturday night was canceled due to wet weather and not held, so the starting lineup was set based on an inversion.  Sunoco Fuels Fast Time qualifier Mike Beeler pulled a four inversion which put Matthew Wendt and Doss on the front row.

Wendt led the opening four laps with Doss on his rear bumper before Wendt jumped into the turn four wall coming to complete lap four, to end his night early.  Wendt escaped to the pits with right front damage and the race stayed green with Doss assuming the lead.

Doss lead by over a second at multiple times throughout the long run before Beeler would continually reel him in as they danced in traffic.  Tracy Bolin suffered a broken rear end in Saturday practice and maintained a narrow fourth place run over JR Courage and Chris Scribner throughout the event.

Bischofberger overcame a broken axle in the 10 minute last practice session on Sunday to run third throughout the entire feature.

Upperlake’s Jimmy Stillman used the leaders as a pick to overhaul Lakeport’s Jeremy Hopkins for seventh past halfway in one of the stronger battles in the race.

Doss started slipping with a loose condition off of turn two and Beeler closed within a car length over the last five laps of the feature.  Doss held on for a .483 second win over Beeler, Bischofberger, Bolin, and Courage.  Beeler’s run from fourth to second made him the Penney Racing Supply Hard Charger.

The Pacific Challenge Series continues its 2016 season with the first round of the Tri-Holiday Series at Stockton 99 Speedway on May 28th.

PREVIEW: PACIFIC CHALLENGE SERIES READY TO BATTLE IN UKIAH

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (May 3, 2016) – Round three of the Pacific Challenge Series presented by PenneyLawyers is this Saturday night at Ukiah Speedway as drivers continue their battle towards the 2016 championship.  Teammates Jeff Bischofberger and all-time winningest PCS driver Jeremy Doss anchor the standings for the touring Super Late Model Series.  For Doss, not only is Saturday’s race critical for the championship, Ukiah is his home track for the Upperlake, CA driver.

Doss has enjoyed great success at the challenging quarter-mile bullring at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds, scoring four wins and a perfect record of six-for-six top-fives.  Doss has won his last four starts at the facility dating back to his October 2012 win that propelled him to the PCS championship.

“Ukiah Speedway means a lot.  That’s kind of where it all started there.  I started there in Legends cars.  All around it is a great facility!  You get a lot of fans and there’s always great racing with the Pacific Challenge Series,” Doss said.  “I’ve always had great success there and looking forward to coming back.  To have success in front of your home fans means a lot.  The last couple times we’ve been there we picked up the win so we’re hoping to do that again.”

Bischofberger leads Doss by two points on the strength of back-to-back third place finishes to open up the PCS season.  Running third in the championship is Loomis’ Chris Scribner with runs of sixth and fourth this year.  Scribner and Doss are the only two active points contenders with career victories at Ukiah.

2015 series champion John Moore of Granite Bay, CA is fourth in the standings and finished in the top-five in all three Ukiah starts last year.  Canadian Darrell Midgley rounds out the top-five.  Hayward’s Danny Malfatti has scored top-tens in both 2016 PCS races to rank sixth with 2014 champion Mike Beeler seventh.  Beeler is one of the more accomplished PCS drivers in Ukiah history with five starts, three top-fives, and five top-tens.  Eighth in PCS points is 2015 Rookie of the Year Cole Moore with Tracy Bolin staring down his Ukiah debut from ninth in the standings.

The most active Ukiah driver out of current PCS drivers is Jimmy Stillman.  Using the combined PCS and Airport Auto Brokers Late Model history books Stillman has accumulated 13 starts with eight top-tens and a second place effort in 2009.  Stillman rounds out the top-ten in PCS standings.

Mike Hite and Travis Milburn have both made the first two PCS races but find themselves mired in 13th and 14th in the standings hoping to use Ukiah as a comeback race.  JR Courage missed the Roseville round but is expected at Ukiah while Matthew Wendt had a successful debut at Roseville he hopes to ride into Ukiah.  Todd Lands of Cloverdale has two career AABLM/PCS Ukiah starts and aims to return to action on Saturday.

Saturday’s races for the Pacific Challenge Series at Ukiah are also the season opener for Ukiah, with local track Bandoleros, Bombers, Mini Stocks, and Legends scheduled.  It marks the third of as many as eight times Legends will race with PCS this year.

Friday action includes a practice session from 3 p.m. until dark. The pit gates will open at noon for practice with pricing $30 per person (no car fees).  On Saturday pit gates open at 10 a.m. and grandstands open at 3:30 p.m.  Qualifying will be at 5 p.m. with racing to follow.

Ticket prices are priced $12 for Adults, $9 for Seniors and Students, $6 for Children 6-11, and  Children 5 and under free!  Ukiah Speedway also offers a family pack for $30.
