Shasta Open Show – Many have said it was the best 3 days of racing that Northern California has seen in years. With a PCS season record high car count of 22 late models traveling to Shasta Raceway Park from all over California, Oregon and even Washington. As the final points race in what has been a very exciting and close PCS season. The stakes were high and the PCS competitors all brought their “A” games. The 3 day format gave all the teams plenty of time to tune on their race cars and the practice times showed. The weather was perfect mild sunshine and just right for an awesome weekend of racing. With several other divisions racing with good car counts as well the pits were bustling. It was nice to see such a big turnout for Shasta. Thanks go out to Blair, Bob, Nadine and staff for putting on a great end of the year show.
Saturday’s heat race and trophy dash format gave the fans a great taste of what Sunday was to bring. The heat races saw the Hirschbock brothers shine as new comer to the series, Randy, would win Heat 1 and series regular Bobby would win heat 2.
Danny Allen won the PRS $100 trophy dash for cash in his second race with the PCS group. The 15 year old from Roseville, Ca. Looked fast for his first time at Shasta Raceway Park.
Eric Schmidt topped the qualifying charts to collect the $100 bonus for top spot.
With a perfect sunny Sunday on tap the late model group was fired up and ready to race. The 100 lap main event proved to be nothing but spectacular racing with Randy Houston and Eric Schmidt battling side by side through a couple of edge of your seat end of the race re starts. Schmidt crossed the checkers first for the win with Houston on his bumper cover followed by Junior Roddy in close 3rd , 2013 Stockton 99 champion Matt Scott in 4th in his first 10” tire outing and Dash winner Danny Allen rounding out the top 5.
The final finishing order for the season brought the well-deserved Pacific Challenge Series season championship to Eric Schmidt and team with Junior Roddy in 2nd just a bit ahead of Bobby Hirschbock and his I-5 Tire Factory Team in 3rd after a tough points battle all season.
Congratulations and appreciation goes out to all for an amazing weekend and season of racing.
